Claude Cowork Expands to Mobile and Web

Anthropic has expanded Claude Cowork beyond the desktop, making it available on the web and mobile for the first time. The update, which began rolling out on July 9, means Cowork sessions now run remotely on Anthropic’s servers — so your AI work keeps going even when you close your laptop.

What Changed

When Cowork launched in January, it was a desktop-only tool. You needed the Claude desktop app open on your computer for sessions to run. That limitation is now gone.

With the new remote sessions feature, your work is saved to your Claude account and accessible from any device. Start a complex task on your desktop at the office, check its progress from your phone on the train, and review the finished output on your tablet at home. If your laptop runs out of battery mid-task, Cowork keeps working.

Anthropic has also unified the interface. Chat and Cowork now share a single home screen on web and desktop, with one sidebar, one search bar, and one place for all your Projects and Artifacts.

Scheduled Tasks

The most practical new feature is scheduled tasks. You can now set up recurring work that Claude handles automatically — checking email every morning, pulling analytics weekly, or compiling a status report every Friday. These tasks run remotely with no device online, which turns Cowork into something closer to an always-on assistant than an on-demand tool.

Who Gets It

The beta is rolling out to Max plan subscribers first, with other paid plans following over the next several weeks. To mark the launch, Anthropic is extending doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5, giving users more room to test larger tasks.

What This Means for You

If you already use Claude Code or Cowork on desktop, the web and mobile expansion is a genuine convenience upgrade. The ability to hand off a task and walk away — without worrying about whether your computer stays on — removes one of the biggest friction points with agentic AI tools.

The timing is notable too. This launch landed on the same day as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work, which offers a similar “give it a goal, get back finished work” experience. The AI agent race is heating up, and both companies are now competing to be the autonomous assistant you trust with real work.
