Google Wires Gemini Into Every Workspace App

Google has embedded its Gemini AI directly into every major Workspace app. The new system, called Workspace Intelligence, was announced at Cloud Next 2026 and turns your scattered emails, documents, calendar events, and chat messages into a connected knowledge graph that Gemini can draw on whenever you need help.

Until now, Gemini in Workspace operated mostly in isolation — it could help you draft an email or summarise a document, but it didn’t know what you were working on across apps. Workspace Intelligence changes that. It gives Gemini continuous awareness of your entire Workspace footprint, so when you ask it to write a project update, it already knows which project you mean, who’s involved, and what the latest status is.

What’s New in Each App

Gmail gets an AI Inbox that surfaces your most important messages and an AI Overview feature that answers questions about your email history without you having to dig through threads.

Sheets now lets you build entire spreadsheets using plain language. Describe what you need and Gemini handles the multi-step construction, pulling data from your files, emails, and the web.

Docs can generate personalised first drafts that match your writing style and company templates, drawing on relevant files across your Drive.

Chat introduces Ask Gemini — a unified command line for your work. State a goal and Gemini completes complex tasks behind the scenes, including generating documents and slides. It also delivers a daily briefing with important tasks, unread threads, and action items.

What This Means for You

If you use Google Workspace for work or school, Gemini just became significantly more useful. Instead of a generic AI assistant, it now acts more like a colleague who has been reading over your shoulder — it knows your projects, your contacts, and your communication style.

Workspace Intelligence is rolling out now and is enabled by default on most plans. If you’re concerned about data access, admins can disable specific sources, and the system processes data within the same Google infrastructure that already handles your Workspace content.
